UFC 95: Sanchez vs Stevenson Recap

- Diego Sanchez and Joe Stevenson put on a strong main event performance. Both fighters went at each other for the full 15-minutes and capped off a strong night of fights. Sanchez was just too fast and quick for Stevenson and it will be fun to watch what Diego can do in the lightweight ranks.
- Wilson Gouveia actually put up a better fight against Nate Marquardt than I though he would. Like it or not, Marquardt is one of the top 3 middleweights in the UFC right now and is probably next should be next in line for a title shot. I’m not saying he’ll get the next shot, just that he probably should.
- Why anyone would willingly engage Demian Maia on the ground is beyond me. It seemed like Chael Sonnen had that mindset as well early on, but then he chose to mess with Maia on the ground instead of forcing him to stand up. Stupid, stupid, stupid mistake.
- The reason MMA is so enjoyable and intriguing is because anything truly can happen at any time. Just ask Josh Koscheck and Paulo Thiago.
- Another brutal first round KO from Junior dos Santos. I really didn’t think we’d see that again from him, but I was mistaken.
- The UFC awarded $40,000 superlative bonuses last night. Diego Sanchez and Joe Stevenson both won for “Fight of the Night.” Paulo Thiago won “Knockout of the Night,” and Demian Maia won “Submission of the Night.”
