Shane Mosley stopped Ricardo Mayorga at 2:59 of the 12th round in their junior middleweight bout Saturday night, which could be a primer for a title fight for ‘Sugar’.
Mosley knocked Mayorga to the canvas with 15 seconds left in the final round, forcing his opponent to take an eight-count. Mayorga got back up, though Mosley connected with a short left to knock him down again. Mosley was ahead on two of the three cards when the fight was halted.
Mosley will now seek a title bout vs. Antonio Margarito for the WBA welterweight championship. Mosley improved to 45-5 with 38 knockouts, Mayorga fell to 28-7-1.
