‘Superman’ starts off the night with an easy win
It’s been a long time away from the ring for Dennis Hallman since neck surgery. "Superman" showed no ring rust at all after 16 months away from the game, submitting Danny Ruiz inside of two minutes with a choke.
Hallman, 33, came out looking to shoot from the get-go and got the fight to the ground just 37 seconds in. Ruiz (5-4) just didn’t have the experience to keep Hallman from improving his position from half guard to side control. From there, it took Hallman just 42 seconds to take Ruiz’s back. The choke came just seconds later. It was win No. 40 for Hallman, who now has 31 wins by submission. Hallman’s best wins came against Matt Hughes.
This was the first fight on "March Badness" pay-per-view, a hybrid boxing/MMA card in Pensacola, Florida. Boxing announcer Bob Sheridan is on the call along with MMA fighter Seth Petruzelli. Sheridan is speaking at a very elementary level to make sure that boxing fans understand what is happening on the MMA side. So far, so good.
