Shocker! Lytle beats Burns in another Fight of the Night candidate

He did it again. Chris Lytle has been criticized recently for not always using the smartest approach to lock up victories. His all out strategy does entertain fans and best of all, it allows to keep his job with the UFC. You can also see that the UFC is starting giving him favorable style matchups. Kevin Burns slugged it out with the veteran of 16 UFC fights and came out the loser. Lytle (27-17-5, 6-10 UFC) took a unanimous decision (29-28 on all scorecards) and probably cashed in another Fight of the Night bonus.

"I wanted someone to try and take me out. I feel like I'm going to get through them"

Burns looked like the dominant striker in the first. His kicks were hurting Lytle and he was timing the Indianapolis firefighter well when he repeatedly threw looping rights and dropping his hands. Burns floored Lytle with one minute left in the first with a right. Lytle looked to be in real trouble in the final 10 seconds of the round.

"I didn't see it. I ducked my head and he caught me with one. I was on the ground. I said I gotta get back up. I'm a veteran fighter, I had to weather the storm and I collected my head between the rounds."

A fully recovered Lytle charged forward to begin the second and blasted Burns with a combination in the opening 10 seconds. From there, it was Lytle chasing and landing punches galore for the next two rounds as Burns was on his horse. Lytle opened a nasty cut over Burns' left eye. That sealed the deal.

Lytle was coming off a loss against Marcus Davis at UFC 93. He got a Fight of the Night award on that occasion. If he gets it tonight, that'll make four FON bonuses in his last six fights.
