Kimbo Free and Clear of EliteXC/Strikeforce, Eyes Boxing


MMA Fanhouse’s Ariel Helwani recently reported on Gary Shaw’s announcement that Kimbo Slice was free of Strikeforce and would persue boxing. While the theory put forth was that Strikeforce had purchased Slice’s contract, Strikeforce’s efforts to negotiate with Slice may have been booked through ProElite. ProElite looks to have retained some contractual ties to the You Tube sensation. ProElite recently came to agree with Slice to relinquish their promotional rights to the boxer, and this information was relayed in their most recent 8-K filing with the SEC. I would imagine there is more of a direct relationship between Slice and Shaw now, without the need for an intermediary corporation like ProElite.

With his MMA career a thing of the past, Sharon Robb of The Sun Sentinel puts forth a possible date for Slice’s boxing debut:

Streetfighter Kimbo Slice of Coral Springs is stepping out of the cage and into the ring, according to promoter Gary Shaw,…….Shaw and Don King have a pro card scheduled for July 11 at the BankAtlantic Center. The date is tentative because it conflicts with the July 8-11 Women’s National Golden Gloves Tournament at the Fort Lauderdale Airport Hilton, and King said he doesn’t like to conflict with local boxing shows. …
