Is Strikeforce cheating seasoned fighters to feature Kim Couture?
Strikeforce is due to roll out its second Showtime card in late May or early June from Tacoma, Washington. The card is coming together slowly as the promotion navigates its way through contract situations with two of the biggest names it potentially acquired from EliteXC, Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano. Jake Shields will battle Robbie Lawler in the main event. Kim Couture, wife of UFC legend Randy Couture, told HDNet that she’s going to be on the card as well.
The guys at Fightlinker aren’t too happy:
You’d think after what happened the last time Strikeforce stuck Kim Couture on the televised portion of an event, they’d smarten up and keep her on the prelims until she had enough seasoning to fight some decent competition. Strikeforce is trying to position itself as the new #2 promotion in North America and they’re booking a 1-1 fighter on their cards because she’s a novelty celebrity. There are tons of experienced women out there who are working their asses off … (but) who gives a (expletive)about them? Not Strikeforce, that’s for sure.
Couture’s second fight against Lina Kvokov was an eyesore. Kvokov was clearly not ready to fight professionally and ran around the cage, turning her back, from the get-go. Is Strikeforce making a mistake trying to draw eyes to the television and put more butts in the seats by featuring celebrity over experience?
