Gatorade signs St Pierre For Canadian “G” Campaign

TORONTO, March 20 – Today PepsiCo Canada, licensee of the Gatorade
brand in Canada, announced the signing of the Canadian faces of Gatorade’s “G”
campaign as part of the company’s bold new brand identity and attitude.
Similar to the US “G” campaign launched at the Super Bowl in January with
top athletes like Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and Serena Williams, the
Gatorade brand in Canada has assembled a group of iconic athletes to join this
global roster for the Canadian campaign.
“Just like in the US, the Canadian Gatorade brand is recognizing some of
our nation’s most influential and inspiring athletes,” said Dale Hooper, vice
president of marketing for Gatorade in Canada. “These athletes represent
Canada’s best while also serving as motivation to any Canadian who sweats.”
The new Canadian faces of the Gatorade brand’s “G” campaign include:
– Georges St-Pierre – www.gspfightclub.com
– Georges “Rush” St-Pierre, also referred to as “GSP” is a
professional Canadian mixed martial artist (MMA). He is currently
the Welterweight Champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship
(UFC), and is ranked as one of the top three “pound-for-pound”
fighters by multiple MMA sources. St-Pierre holds a black belt in
both karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In 2008 he was named
Sportsnet’s Canadian Athlete of the Year and at only 27, he’s just
four wins away from tying the most wins within the UFC.
– Gordie Howe – www.mrandmrshockey.com
– Gordie Howe, often referred to as “Mr. Hockey,” is recognized as
one of the greatest hockey players of all time. His career spanned
six decades, 32 pro seasons, 2,589 career points, 1,071 goals and
29 All-Star appearances. A four-time Stanley Cup champion with the
Detroit Red Wings, he won six Hart Trophies as the league’s most
valuable player and six Art Ross Trophies as the leading scorer. He
was the recipient of the first NHL Lifetime Achievement Award in
2008.
For Gatorade, “G” represents the heart, hustle, and soul of athleticism
and will become a badge of pride for any Canadian who sweats, no matter where
they’re active. The new Gatorade attitude is reflected through a total
packaging redesign. For example, the Gatorade Thirst Quencher brand logo will
be the letter “G” along with the brand’s iconic bolt.
