Garcia says Urijah and Pulver have been passed at featherweight
Leonard Garcia built a solid name with three fights in the UFC. But he realized that he was a little too small for lightweight and decided to be a big guy in the WEC featherweight division. Just two fights into his WEC career, Garcia is saying Jens Pulver and former featherweight champ Urijah Faber are in trouble in the organization’s glamour division.
Those are pretty big words considering Faber has won 14-of-15 fights dating back to 2005. Garcia says he wasn’t surprised by Mike Brown’s win at WEC 36 over the former champ but was shocked by Faber’s chin.
Faber looked great in crushing Pulver at WEC 38 in his first fight back since the Brown loss. It proved nothing to Garcia:
"He doesn’t have power," Garcia told Larry Pepe from ProMMARadio. "Jens cut almost 25 lbs. The fight for Jens that night was just to make weight. I don’t think he was into the fight."
Listen to Garcia talk about WEC’s featherweight mix:
Garcia said Pulver showed up four days before the 145-pound fight at 173 pounds. The 29-year-old Texan also said that Pulver told him he wasn’t into the fight.
He thinks Faber can’t beat Brown in a rematch because doesn’t have the power to put the current champ down. Garcia faces Brown, who he called a bigger, slower version of Faber, for the title this Sunday at WEC 39 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Listen here to the entire show with Garcia and Mike Brown.
